Meeting minutes from 7/14
We discussed the categories of socio-emotional development, and found that the 6 categories were a good starting point.
We dicussed presentation structure and came up with the following:
5 minute interactive introduction activity
18 minutes presenting the 6 categories
7 minute interactive concluding activity, centered around how does what we know about socio-emotional development of adolescents relate to teaching?
A possible intro activity is "Socio-Emotional Identity Swap"
Each person in the class would introduce themselves and state two facts about their own socio-emotional development, for example "I'm Bailey, in the 10th grade I met my six best friends, and when I was 15 I had my first boyfriend." "I'm Amy, (fact #1), (fact #2) and so on.
After everyone has a chance to state this we go around for about 3 minutes introducing ourselves to each other, here is the interesting part. When I introduce myself to say Sam for the first time, I then take on Sam and his two facts as my identity and Sam in turn takes on my name and two facts as his new identity. The process continues until it is cut off. At that point we go around the room and introduce ourselves and our new identity. You will notice some identities multiplied, some dropped out of existence, some morphed into an entire new identity. This would then lead right into "establishing identity".
We divided up the categories as follows:
Katie-establishing identity
Angela-establishing autonomy
Amy-establishing intimacy
Bailey-becoming comfortable with one's sexuality
David-achievement
Sam-depression
We plan on meeting next week after class on Thursday, or if we are viewing our documentaries after that.
For next week:
Research your topic. Plan how you would present that topic given 2-3 minutes. Come with ideas on possible intro and concluding activities.
As you research, create your own page for your topic in our Wikispace and post anything you would like there. Share any ideas you have concerning our project on the home page discussion board.
Goals for next week's meeting:
Present your research findings to the group informally.
Figure out the flow of the presentation.
Have a working draft of our presentation.
Welcome to our Group Page for our Adolescent Development project!
Hopefully this wikispace will come in handy for discussing and working on our project.
